English Alcoholics Anonymous in Nagoya

Japan is known for its drinking culture. It’s not uncommon to see a “salaryman” passed out in front of the station, completely drunk at 7 in the evening. This is a reality of life in Japan, where some people tend to drink heavily. The same can be said for the foreign community in Japan, although they tend to pass out a bit later than 7. If you are in Nagoya and struggling to resist the temptation of chu-hai, there is help available in English.

The AA Open Meetings take place every Sunday at 19:00 on the 2nd floor of the Mikokoro [Sacred Heart] Center, which is located near Hisayaodori Station. To get there from Hisayaodori subway station, take Exit 1 (Starbucks) and head north. You’ll see the elevated expressway in front of you. Cross two small streets until you reach the Otsubashi bus stop. Across the street, you’ll find the Mikokoro Center.
