Chubu Walkathon and International Charity Festival
The Chubu Walkathon and International Charity Festival, formerly known as the Nagoya Walkathon, was established in 1991 in Nagoya. This event is primarily organized by the expatriate community, and it takes place every May in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) and Nagoya International School (NIS). The festival’s main objective is to raise funds for local NPOs and charitable organizations, promote volunteerism and philanthropy, and encourage international camaraderie and cooperation within the community.
Over the years, the Walkathon event has grown in popularity among the region’s international and Japanese community. It has evolved from a small gathering to a large-scale event, featuring various bands, international foods, and numerous volunteering opportunities, making it more appealing and accessible to everyone.
All funds raised from the Walkathon are allotted to local charities and NPOs that submit detailed project proposals, which are reviewed and approved by the organizing committee. In the past, beneficiaries have included projects such as constructing a new staircase for an orphanage and providing entertainment equipment for children.
